Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Detective Reported To Work Intoxicated0
A Palm Beach County Sheriff’s detective attended a meeting heavily intoxicated on March 1. Detective Marcel Dos Santos drove his cruiser to the Delray Beach Civic Center at 9 a.m., while under the influence of alcohol, CBS12 reports.
The Internal Affairs report has caused outrage among the community and advocates against impaired driving. Law enforcement officers are supposed to be protecting citizens by keeping streets safer, not putting them in danger.
Detective Dos Santos denied being impaired, but admitted to consuming alcohol the night before. His breath alcohol content was .135 and .133, according to the Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office.
Under a Florida Law, a person cannot be arrested for driving under the influence, if they were not observed behind the wheel.
Detective Dos Santos was not arrested, but did lose the use of his cruiser for six months and was suspected for 160 hours.
